The Washington County Economic Development (WCED) is a non-profit organization located in Chatom, Alabama. Its mission is to help Washington County businesses and industries grow and prosper, while also attracting new businesses to the area. WCED works closely with the local community to promote economic development, job creation, and community revitalization.
The mission of the Washington County Board of Education is “Excellence in Education” for all students. The district seeks to provide programs and learning venues to promote academic achievement, career technical opportunities and holistic growth for each student.
Washington County is the sixth largest (area-wise) county in the state with 1,089 square miles. It is the home to chemical industries, farmland, and timberland.
Welcome to Cultivate: Growing STEM Educators professional development sessions (K-3 & 4-6), which are practical, plant science-based STEM lessons tailored to the Alabama Course of Study. Through a Cultivate partnership with Huntsville Botanical Gardens, we are an AMSTI Affiliate, and AL educators earn 3 credit hours per session attended. Attendees receive curriculum and resources to take back to their classrooms!
